Cuisine Italian
- 1 cup (ish) Sourdough Starter Recently fed
- 1 tbsp EVOO
- 1/2 tsp Italian Herb Seasoning
Preheat a pizza stone or cast iron skillet inside a 425 degrees F oven Once the oven is preheated and/or the pan(s) are super hot, remove from the oven carefully with mits Drizzle pizza stone and/or cast iron skillet with EVOO Ladle the sourdough starter onto the hot pan (yes, a ladle works best) - there really aren't exact measurements, y'all: just ladle a fair amount of fed sourdough starter onto the pizza stone/cast iron skillet and - moving in a circular motion with your ladle - create a pizza crust circle to desired size Drizzle a bit more EVOO on there....
Sprinkle the crust (which will start cooking right away, that's okay!) with Salt and Italian Seasonings and/or herbs
Place back in the 425 degree oven for about 10 minutes
Please Note: this recipe will NOT work with pizza sauce on it. I've read that it doesn't work, stubbornly still tried it myself, only to find I should've listened to Lisa at the blog Farmhouse on Boone and just used fresh tomatoes, veggies, herbs, etc!
I know a lot of you might be thinking, "but will it really taste good?" And the answer there is a resounding "YES!" This recipe is especially useful for my Vegan hubby and my uber-picky son! I add cheese on mine, but for my husband who doesn't eat cheese, this recipe is a SERIOUS WIN-WIN!!!!
OTHER OPTIONS:
I've used the Trader Joe's Sriracha BBQ Sauce thinly layered on this crust, then sliced red onions, shredded cheese, and pre-baked chicken leftovers and WALLAH! Delicious BBQ chicken pizza!
I have also used fresh tomatoes and herbs from the garden, sliced thin, and added my much-loved Azure Standard Raw Cheddar Cheese - just hand torn pieces - on top for a delicious Margherita Pizza!
I also love adding fresh homemade Pesto (or store bought!) in a thin layer, and then adding either chicken sausages for me, or vegan sausages for hubby and son - and then slicing cherry tomatoes and artichoke hearts for a divine Pesto Pizza!
Really, get creative as the options are endless!
