Let me start by apologizing for such a crude subject title: but my dearies, IT MUST BE DONE.
I had to get your attention, right?
So, here comes STEP 2 in creating a more substantial life: PARING DOWN, friends!
Stay with me, here…..
I know, I know — we are all guilty of some type and level of hoarding. For me, personally, it is saying goodbye to clothes that I find particularly daunting. In fact, in a future post, we will be doing this together! See? I’m not even ‘there’ yet!
Remember: we’re in this together!!!
Okay, so I am a realist and IÂ want this journey to be attainable and the last thing I want to do is overwhelm you!
Ummmmm, hellloooooo? That is THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS BLOG, riiiiiight?
RIGHT!!!
We are ALL about simplifying, achieving, getting rid of complication and creating a shiny new path towards SUBSTANTIALITY (yes, I just made up that word…..)
So, on that note I am going to give you, my dear readers and super friends, a choice:
STEP 2 TOWARDS A MORE SUBSTANTIAL LIFE:
Pare down, clear out, throw out, and be done with TWO of the following areas/rooms/spaces in your home….
- Kitchen (this includes saying hasta la vista to: all food you won’t or don’t eat, clearing the clutter inside all drawers, cupboards, and knick-knacks, and paring down all the dishes or glasses you either seem to magically breed or just plain ole’ don’t use)
- Office/Mudroom/Guest Room (this basically means whatever space seems to collect an insurmountable amount of crap that ends up collecting more dust than attention)
So, what exactly are the rules here you ask, oh-secret-hoarder-friend-of-mine? Well, it is simple……
GET.RID.OF.STUFF.YOU.DO.NOT.USE.ON.A.DAILY.BASIS.
YES. AND (here’s the critical part)…….
DO.IT.TODAY.
That’s right, not tomorrow, not next week — TO-FREAKING-DAY!!!!
C’mon, pour yourself a glass o’ wine and just get er done.
Are we clear? Crystal? Yup, I thought so….
Lastly, my sweet ones, I know this will be immensely difficult/emotional/frustrating…..this fact is NOT unappreciated nor is it absent from my own personal realm of existence (we ARE doing this together, after all!) but I will say this:
I can totally, with 100% certainty, tell you that you will feel SUPER FREE, light, airy, buoyant, and weightless after completing this task.
You’ll feel like a freakin’ cloud, man.
Much like the practice of meditation each day in STEP 1, you will perhaps find Step 2 somewhat addicting.
Okay, okay – maybe not that extreme……but you WILL find this step towards a more substantial and meaningful life — well, freeing.
It does something amaze-a-balls, my dearies:
it forces you to zero-in on the things that are truly essential; substantial.Â
It may not seem like it now, but this entire concept of paring down makes things less complicated – and it also proves to you that you need WAY less than you think you do! It also will, I hope, show you that all the stuff you’ve accumulated through the years is actually weighing you down and adding to a less authentic life.
What do I mean? Well – you will see this with time! I promise – stick with me and you’ll know what I mean in a later post!
And that freedom from complication and weight from too much around you is simply — MAGICAL.
LASTLY: I would like to share with you a professional organizer I came across while flipping through a Family Circle magazine: Meet Miss Amanda Sullivan!
What I love about her is that she is a Mom, a realist, and makes simplifying your stuff totally do-able. This, my dearies, is PRICELESS.
Miss Amanda’s book, Organized Enough: The Anti-Perfectionist’s Guide to Getting – and Staying – Organized, will teach you to:
- Take Inventory
- Achieve A Â (Daily) ‘Last Sweep’
- Set Very Specific Limits On Stuff
- Buy Less, But Better Quality
- Create A Ten-Minute Maintenance Habit
Like Amanda’s advice to create a consistent habit of being “organized enough,” your daily Tip-Of-The-Week emails will guide you towards just that: a consistent habit.
You will create a more effectual, meaningful life that will undoubtedly shepherd you towards more sanity, inner-peace, and a real understanding of what is truly important in this life we all lead.
And, my loves, we are IN THIS TOGETHER. ONE DAY AT A TIME, right?
That’s what I’m here for: to make this journey A.C.H.I.E.V.A.B.L.E.
Cuz’ who’s got time for anything other than that?
So, as I always say my dear readers: Onward and upward!
You have achieved A LOT today, and you should be SUPER proud of yourself!
Make sure to see what progress I am personally making on Instagram and PLEASE make sure to share my blog with any and all friends/relatives/peeps you know who you believe would truly benefit from these simple, totally attainable steps towards what we all want at the end of the day: A More Substantial Life.
So, let’s look forward to what we can achieve together next week, friends. I cannot wait…..
Always Here,
